Mid-Atlantic Italian Greyhound Club of Central Maryland (MAIGC)
Play Date Health Guidelines
Here by popular demand are a list of guidelines you should use when bringing your IGs
to a MAIGC play date (or anywhere for that matter). There is always a risk when you
socialize your dogs with others so let's use these to keep our little ones as happy and
healthy as we can, and minimize the risk to all attending canines.
- Dogs should be current on all vaccinations and bortadella is recommended.
Rabies vaccinations are required (please have tags on collars).
- If any of your dogs exhibit the following, or have had symptoms within the
previous 7-14 days, then none of your dogs should attend:
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Open sores
- Sneezing, coughing
- Excretions from nose or eyes
- Rash
- Pregnant bitches (and their housemates) should remain at home.
- Bitches in season should remain at home. (Having them nearby makes the intact
males too crazy.)
- Foster/rescue dogs should have been in your care for at least 14 days without
exhibiting any of the above symptoms or they should remain at home.
- Crates should be available to contain dogs who are not "playing nicely with others."
- Leashes are required for moving dogs to/from vehicles and the play date location.
- Have your own supply of fresh water for your dogs.
- You are responsible for immediately picking up and appropriately disposing of your
dog's excrement. We also take it very kindly if you help out the play date host or
hostess by policing the grounds occasionally for other "presents".
